“BRIDGE”
最近、僕らの仕事を尋ねられると「橋渡しをしています」と答えています。
僕が生まれ育った小さな地域では、長年伝えられてきた手仕事の文化が今まさに消えかけていました。その文化を次の世代に伝える方法を考えた結果、衣服というツールを通じて生活に溶け込ませることで、この地域の文化の継続と循環という課題に向き合ってきました。
その過程で、有松の職人やその地に暮らす人々と多くの触れ合いがありました。また、デュッセルドルフでは仲間たちとの日々があり、世界中の様々な土地を訪れては、その土地で出会った人々との出会いがありました。まるで川のこちら側から向こう側へ渡るように、新しい風土や習慣に触れる度、空気の匂いが変わり、聞きなれない新鮮な言葉が耳に流れ込んできます。それぞれの出会いの中で驚きや発見があり、固定概念を覆され、対岸から自己を見つめ直す大切さを学びました。そして、その全ての出会いが、次のクリエーションへと繋がっています。
一つのローカルと、別のローカル。ある文化と、異なる文化。西洋と、東洋。作る人と、使う人。
時には対局のように思えるこれらの間にあるものは、立ちはだかる壁や鉄格子ではなく、むしろ人々が自身の文化というお土産を持ち寄り、行き交い、繋がるものです。
それはまるで、どこまでも伸びる橋のようで、僕らはその橋渡しをしていると考えています。そして、それは時間という大きな川を越え、過去に触れ、現在の暮らしとなり、未来の新しい伝統となって繋がっていくのだと、そんなふうに思っています。

Recently, when asked about our work, I’ve found myself answering, “We build bridges.”
In the small region where I was born and raised, the traditional craft passed down for generations was on the brink of fading away. In seeking a way to preserve this culture, I turned to clothing as a medium. By embedding the handicraft into daily life through garments, I hoped to create continuity and circulation, ensuring that this cultural knowledge would live on.
Throughout this journey I have encountered many artisans in Arimatsu as well as the people who carry this legacy in their everyday lives. In Düsseldorf I found myself surrounded by inspiring collaborators. And as I traveled to many corners of the world I came across strangers who quickly became meaningful connections. Like crossing a river from one side to the other, each new encounter, each unfamiliar scent, each unexpected word offered new perspectives. These experiences surprised me, challenged my assumptions and taught me the value of reflecting on myself from the opposite shore. Each moment has led me forward in my creative path.
A local culture and another. One tradition and one entirely different. West and East. Those who make and those who wear.
Though these may seem to stand in contrast, they are not divided by walls or fences. They are connected, woven together through shared stories and exchanged experiences. We carry our cultures as offerings and in this act of meeting and exchange something new takes shape. We believe we are building a bridge, one that stretches far and wide, crossing time, reaching into the past, shaping the present and guiding us toward future traditions.
